I use art to process personal experiences, random nerdy curiosities, and to try to balance the noise of the world. In chaotic times, art brings balance, purpose and healing. I envision a place  where creativity is ever-present, immersive, and accessible to everyone at any skill level. To that end, I facilitate workshops designed to help other people discover their own creative sparks so they can experience the joy in making art too.

I have a strong background in craft and fiber art as well as watercolors. While I’m still working in all of those mediums, most of my current work is in ceramics. Working with clay feels like drawing in 3D. It allows me to realize my ideas in more depth and explore new ways of thinking about them.

I also have a daily drawing practice that I have maintained since 2020. Each day I sketch an egg form and then continue the drawing inside it, filling it with whatever comes out in the process. These daily drawings are the foundation of my artistic expression and practice. Most of my more formal work in painting and ceramics flows from the egg drawings.

Most of my inspiration comes from themes in folklore, fairy tales, mythologies, and cosmic horror. I’m fascinated by the relationships between darkness and light, life and decay, and the surreal and unsettling nature of liminal spaces. I’m exploring how these centuries old stories remain relevant and meaningful even though the context may have shifted over time.

Ultimately my work combines personal and universal narratives. Through clay, painting and drawing I make art in which the familiar becomes strange and the strange becomes familiar. My work functions as both personal and shared healing. It invites the viewer to explore the ways that art helps make sense of and find meaning in the world around us.

Bio:

I am an interdisciplinary artist based in Oak Ridge, TN.  I am passionate about art as a tool for healing and personal empowerment. I believe that every person has an innate creative spark that has absolutely nothing to do with “talent”.  In my work with individuals and groups I help people find ways to rekindle that spark and use it to build a creative daily practice.
